What I Treat

Five areas that share a mechanism.

These present as separate problems and are usually investigated as separate problems. Underneath a good proportion of them sit the same few processes: methylation capacity, gut integrity, and total toxic load.

01 — Methylation

MTHFR & Methylation

Methylation is the reaction that keeps neurotransmitter turnover, detoxification, DNA repair and energy production running. MTHFR variants reduce the efficiency of one step in that pathway. Whether that matters in you is a question your biochemistry answers, not your genotype, so I test both and treat to the markers.

Commonly presents as

Fatigue unrelieved by sleep · low mood and anxiety · elevated homocysteine · poor tolerance of B vitamins or methylfolate · brain fog · migraine · a family history of early cardiovascular disease

02 — Gut

Gut Health

The gut is where folate and B12 are absorbed and where a large share of inflammatory load originates, which makes it the stage that has to be handled before anything downstream will hold. Dysbiosis, SIBO and a compromised barrier are assessed with stool and breath testing rather than inferred from symptoms alone.

Commonly presents as

Bloating and distension · IBS-type symptoms · SIBO · food reactivity that keeps widening · irregular bowel habit · reflux · skin changes alongside gut symptoms

03 — Fertility

Functional Fertility Support

A standard fertility workup is built to find structural and hormonal causes, and it is good at that. It is not designed to look at folate handling, homocysteine, nutrient status or toxic load, which is why "unexplained" is such a common verdict. This work runs alongside fertility care rather than in place of it, and it applies to both partners.

Commonly presents as

Unexplained infertility · recurrent pregnancy loss · poor egg or sperm quality · failed cycles with no cause identified · preparing for conception after a previous loss

04 — Environment

Environmental Medicine: CIRS & Mould

Chronic inflammatory response syndrome following exposure to a water-damaged building is a genuinely multi-system presentation, which is why it is so often reframed as anxiety or deconditioning. It is assessed here as an exposure problem: what the building is doing, what the body is doing about it, and what is needed to clear it.

Commonly presents as

Symptoms that ease when away from home or the office · chronic sinus congestion · air hunger · cognitive slowing · unusual sensitivity to smells · fatigue with joint and muscle pain

05 — Longevity

Longevity Medicine

For people who are well and intend to stay that way. The aim is healthspan rather than the absence of a diagnosis, working from biomarkers that move early: cardiometabolic markers, inflammatory load, methylation status and the measures of biological rather than chronological age.

Typically involves

Biological age testing · cardiometabolic risk assessment · cognitive decline risk · inflammatory markers · long-range healthspan planning

Not sure which of these fits?

Most people arrive with symptoms spanning two or three of them. That overlap is usually the most useful diagnostic information in the room.
